2015 has been a busy year. I’ve been working flat-out for most of the yr on back-to-back writing projects in addition to every bit the yr draws to an end, I’m generally simply completely exhausted!
It’s genuinely been quite an exciting yr amongst lots of genuinely interesting work. Several projects accept been inwards areas that I dear working inwards in addition to I’ll endure real excited to catch them published (later adjacent year). The schedules though accept been distinctly over-optimistic in addition to the expectations of my input real high. I’ve constitute myself working long hours in addition to a lot of weekends, amongst solely ii weeks off all year; thus much for work-life balance!
I wouldn’t accept got through it all without the back upward of a duet of fabulous editors; Duncan Hamilton (in-house at OUP) in addition to Alison Macaulay (a freelance editor). I’ve been genuinely lucky to accept cracking working relationships amongst both of them that saw us working closely together to larn the best out the material. Perhaps fifty-fifty to a greater extent than importantly, they supported me amongst humor in addition to encouragement; an invaluable constituent when you’re a freelancer ploughing on solo at your desk.
I haven’t been chained to my desk all yr though. I had a busy conference flavor dorsum inwards the spring, amongst iii presentations inwards simply over a week! I genuinely enjoyed presenting at the MaWSIG PCE at IATEFL in addition to I had a fun workshop at the BALEAP conference inwards Leicester.
I had a duet of unusual trips talking to teachers most the novel edition of the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary inwards Poland inwards March in addition to inwards French Republic inwards June; both lots of fun amongst cracking co-presenters in addition to travelling companions inwards Rachael Roberts in addition to Julie Norton. That was followed past times a calendar week surrounded past times lovely teachers from around the the world every bit component division of the ELT Summer Seminar serial at Exeter College inwards Oxford.
2015 too saw a temporary motility to a rented role to escape dissonance at home, several meetings amongst beau Bristol-based freelancers for java in addition to chat, in addition to a flake of a revamp for my website.
So what does 2016 hold? Well, my diary’s already getting quite total amongst events; an ELT Freelancers’ awayday inwards Oxford at the destination of January, a MaWSIG trial inwards London, thus an EAP conference inwards St Andrews inwards February, IATEFL inwards Birmingham inwards Apr in addition to my offset plenary at the MATSDA conference inwards Liverpool inwards June.
I’m too looking frontward to some much-needed holiday! I’ve already got a calendar week away booked inwards Jan in addition to in that place are to a greater extent than trips inwards the planning. I’d similar to create some to a greater extent than didactics this summertime on an EAP pre-sessional somewhere exterior of Bristol; nil against Bristol, but I’d simply similar to sense how things are done somewhere else (suggestions welcome!). And I’m mulling over a few other projects that mightiness come upward to fruition if I tin uncovering the time.
Most of all though, I’m looking frontward to coming together in addition to working amongst lots to a greater extent than interesting people!
